• meet the specific billing requirements of the local jurisdiction (Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care)
• dispense prescriptions on specific days of the week;
• identify partial dosages for prescriptions with specific drug interactions;
• automatically stop prescriptions assigned unusual durations (such as 10 day prescriptions);
• be flexible within the system to change drug regimes with the seven day dispensing cycle;
• discontinue medications within the seven day dispensing cycle to reduce drug wastage;
• schedule odd dosages to allow for gradual medication reduction/stoppage;
• employ integrated quality assurance procedures on the database to limit medication errors;
• use database management when a patient leaves or moves within the facility.
